Lands of America data records $4 billion in land and ranches for sale for sale in the Mile High State. This represents a combined 958,297 acres of Colorado land for sale (accounting for approximately one percent of land in the state). Of the 64 counties in the state, Huerfano County had the most land and farms for sale. The most expensive property listed for sale in Colorado on Lands of America recently was $100 million, while the median price for land and ranches for sale in Colorado came in at $1 million. The average price of land and ranches for sale in Colorado was $2 million. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program in August 2018, Colorado is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects a 14 percent increase in sales activity over the previous month, with a combined land value of $24.2 million for all property and land sold in the state. Huerfano County recorded the most land sales recently in the state. Colorado is home to some 23 million acres of public land, where lovers of the outdoor life can enjoy everything from hiking and backpacking to mountain biking and skiing. The state boasts 6,000 miles of streams and more than 2,000 lakes and reservoirs where anglers can cast for 35 species of both warm- and cold-water fish. Big-game hunting species in the state include deer, moose, pronghorn antelope and black bear. Residential property is the most common type of land listed for sale in Colorado on Lands of America. WalletHub, a personal finance website, has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including affordability, quality of life and health care. Colorado is one of the country's ten largest states in terms of size, covering an area of 104,100 square miles (67 million acres). In total, 103,642 square miles (100 percent) is made up of land, while the remaining 452 square miles comprises water.
