THE HISTORY-
The Uncompahgre Valley was found to have very fertile soils by Pioneers in the early 1900's. These early Pioneers also realized there wasn't ample rainfall to sustain crops grown on the thousands of acres of farm land in the valley. In 1903 the Uncompahgre Project was approved and was constructed from 1904 to 1909. Today this project diverts thousands of acre feet of water to the valley for agricultural and municipal use. This water is managed by The Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association (UVWUA) and has water rights from the following sources. 1. Gunnison Tunnel delivers 1300 cfs. 2. Uncompahgre River delivers 1225.64 cfs. 3. Taylor Park Reservoir provides 106,230 acre feet of storage. 4. Ridgeway Reservoir provides 1
