Recent data from Lands of America records nearly $4 billion in land and rural property for sale in the Mile High State. This represents almost 948,000 acres of land for sale in the state (accounting for approximately one percent of the state's land). Of the 64 counties in the state, Huerfano County had the most land and farms for sale. The most expensive property listed for sale in Colorado on Lands of America recently was $100 million, while the average price of land and other rural acreage for sale in Colorado was $2 million. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program in October 2018, Colorado is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects an decrease in sales activity over data from the previous month. Huerfano County had the most land sales recently in the state. Colorado is home to some 23 million acres of public land, where lovers of the outdoor life can enjoy everything from hiking and backpacking to mountain biking and skiing. WalletHub, a personal finance website, has ranked the state among the ten best states for retirees based on factors including affordability, quality of life and health care. Colorado ranks among the country's top ten biggest states in terms of size, covering an area of 104,100 square miles (67 million acres). Of this area, 103,642 square miles (100 percent) is land, while the remaining 452 square miles is covered by water.
