Recent data from Lands of America shows $3 billion in land and rural property for sale for sale in the Mile High State. This represents a total of 714,506 acres of land for sale in Colorado (accounting for roughly one percent of the state's land). The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $100 million, though the median price for land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in Colorado was $1 million. The average price of land and rural real estate for sale in Colorado was $2 million. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program in May 2018, Colorado is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from April 2018. Colorado is home to some 23 million acres of public land, where lovers of the outdoor life can enjoy everything from hiking and backpacking to mountain biking and skiing. The state boasts 6, 000 miles of streams and more than 2, 000 lakes and reservoirs where anglers can cast for 35 species of both warm- and cold-water fish. Big-game hunting species in the state include deer, moose and pronghorn antelope and black bear. As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Colorado. Of Colorado's 64 counties, Costilla County had the most land for sale. Colorado is one of the country's top ten biggest states in terms of size, covering an area of 104,100 square miles (67 million acres). Of this area, 103,642 square miles (100 percent) is made up of land, while the remaining 452 square miles comprises water.
