Description of the Land
Expansive tracts of true wilderness located within an hour's drive of Colorado's largest metropolitan area are virtually nonexistent, yet that precisely describes the Daymaker Ranch, Colorado's Front Range Elk and Deer Hunting Preserve. Situated only eight miles east of the resort town of Estes Park and ten miles southwest of Loveland, the Daymaker Ranch benefits from the large herds of elk and deer protected within the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park. Trophy elk and deer range freely onto the ranch from Rocky Mountain National Park and the adjacent Roosevelt National Forest, and 330+ class bulls and 170+ class bucks are not uncommon. Outdoorsmen seeking a large property for an extraordinary hunting or wildlife preserve will find no better candidate in the Front Range than the Daymaker Ranch.

Solitude is one of the Daymaker Ranch's prime assets. Because the ranch is exceptionally well-blocked and located in two valleys with physical barriers to trespass and visual distractions, it offers absolute privacy, free from intruding electrical lighting and highway or other noise from neighboring properties. Staring at the stars from the absolute silence of the hunting cabin, visitors to the ranch can imagine themselves back in the wilderness of 1800, free from the bright lights and background noise of civilization. Yet the ranch is only minutes away from the cuisine, entertainment, and comfort offered by the cities of the Colorado Front Range. Morning may bring the bugling of a bull elk or the sight of a foraging bear within one of the few vestiges of the Rocky Mountains as they were before civilization encroached.

The Daymaker Ranch rises head and shoulders above most other Front Range properties that are merely "ranchettes" by comparison. The Daymaker occupies over six square miles (about 3,947 deeded acres) of prime Rocky Mountain foothill country, including a mix of ponderosa pines, grasslands, shrublands and three miles of the North Fork of the Little Thompson River. Several springs and the North Fork are excellent candidates for development into trout ponds. Ranging from 6200 to 8000 feet, the ranch is spared the harsh winters of the high country, and high numbers of elk, mule deer, bear, mountain lion, coyote, fox, turkey and grouse are found here year-round. All are hunting possibilities (purchaser can qualify for nine landowner preference applications each for deer and elk licenses), or the property may simply be maintained as a superb wildlife preserve.

To protect the Daymaker Ranch as open space, a conservation easement is in place on the majority of the property. Four five-acre building envelopes are allowed within the easement, and 164 acres are not within the easement which allows up to six additional building sites. Presently, a 2500-square foot house, garage, well, horse barn, equipment barn and hunting cabin exist on the property. Commercial utilization of the ranch remains a real option, as the conservation easement allows for a variety of recreational and agricultural uses.

The Daymaker Ranch is very private (including a three-mile boundary shared with the Roosevelt National Forest), yet remarkably accessible. Year-round access to Loveland is a drive of only about 30 minutes via County Road, and Denver International Airport is only a little more than an hour away.

If you've thought that large hunting and recreational ranches in Colorado's Front Range have gone the way of the grizzly bear, think again. Wilderness lives at the Daymaker Ranch, and it's only a short drive away.
