Far from any big cities, this towns natural hot springs, with riverside hot pools, will refresh and rejuvenate. Two city parks straddle the San Juan River, and encompass a river walk and picnic areas. The area is also known for its world-class fishing rivers. Durango has numerous big city conveniences, including a state-of-the-art new hospital, fine restaurants, hotels, shopping, a four-year college, and many cultural activities. The entire four-corners area provides endless activities for the outdoor sports enthusiast. The regional population is 45,000. Archuleta Countys Stevens Field Airport in Pagosa Springs, supports private aircraft and has full aviation service. Wildlife and Recreation
Ortiz River Ranch has an ideal combination of wildlife habitat, pristine fishing waters and lush irrigated meadows. Commonly seen are migrating elk, deer, bobcat, coyote, red tail hawks, eagles, wild turkey and other sporting birds. Occasionally, one may even get a glimpse of a black bear or mountain lion. With approximately 1 mile of Navajo River and 2000 feet of the San Juan River, Ortiz River Ranch is truly a fly fishermans paradise. Equine enthusiasts will find this ranch to be first-rate riding terrain. In addition, the opportunities for exploration and recreation are limitlesswhether its hiking, bird watching, rock climbing, hunting, fishing or just relaxing. The local area also provides many opportunities for all types of recreation. For downhill skiing, Wolf Creek Ski Area is about 35 minutes away, while Durango Mountain Resort is about 1 hour and 30 minute drive.
